What is zero gravity?

ZeroG or Zero-G force, also known as weightlessness.

It is the complete or near-complete absence of the sensation of weight.  Technically, Zero-G can be more accurately described as micro-gravity, however such technical and minute distinctions are matters of physics and not so much practical matters in real life.

Did you know that your body experiences the same sensation for a split second, whether you’re flying aboard ISS like astronauts or simply jumping into a swimming pool?  Zero-G and the experience of it all depends on your budget, time constraints, and adrenaline comfort level.

Doesn’t it cost thousands of dollars to experience Zero-G sensation?

You’d be surprised, but you can experience Zero-G on ANY budget.  Seriously.  Here are some ways you can feel the same sensation as an astronaut:

  • Roller coasters at your local theme park

  • Bungee rope jumping

  • Wind tunnel flight

  • Skydiving, indoor and outdoor

  • Gravity free plane flights

  • Fighter jet flight

  • Flights to the stratosphere

  • Suborbital flights

  • Flight to the Moon or Mars

As a child, did you ever dream of going to space?  A huge part of going to space is experiencing and being trained to handle Zero-G sensation for prolonged periods of time.  Yet what most people don’t realize is that they experience the same sensation as astronauts by age 12 on their favorite theme park ride with huge drops, or in swimming pools that have diving boards.  Yes, your local pool with a diving board gives everyone who dares a taste of Zero-G!

But is it dangerous?

Truthfully, the experience itself (the sensation of Zero-G) on a short-term basis is completely safe and has no negative side effects, provided that you don’t have trouble holding down your food when your feet are not firmly planted on the ground of course.  The “Vomit Comet” was the nickname given to a NASA developed Zero-G gravity training, in which it retrofitted Boeing aero planes that raise and drop in a parabola fashion to create the Zero-G effect for astronauts, causing more than one trainee to lose his or her lunch in the plane.

For the experiences mentioned above, professionals will not allow you to do anything dangerous on your own, unless you have the proper certifications for your level of experience.  Top rate coaches and professionals supervise and prepare each participant for a safe and positive ride.

Our bodies need gravity to maintain muscle mass and bone density.

Zero-G does have long term negative effects. However, unless you planned your next vacation on ISS for the duration of perhaps 6 months, you have nothing to worry about.
